Herrera stays perfect on 2025 poles in WorldWCR, Mexico’s Madrigal claims first front row
Action is underway at Cremona as WorldWCR opened the competition action on the weekend
Round 2 of the FIM Women’s World Circuit Racing Championship is here! The Acerbis Italian Round is officially underway as WorldWCR have hit the ground running and competed for their Tissot Superpole session. Maria Herrera (Klint Forward Racing Team) claimed the second pole of the season, to make it two for two. P2 was claimed by Roberta Ponziani (Klint Forward Racing Team), and to earn her first front row start, Astrid Madrigal (Pons Italika Racing FIMLA) finished in P3.
HERRERA PUNCHES HER P1 TICKET: the #6 sets new circuit record in Superpole
Herrera’ s second lap broke the standing lap record of 1’40.649s, set by Ana Carrasco last year. She later improved on her time to finish with a time of 1’40.468s. She will start tomorrow’s Race 1 from pole position, followed in P2 by her teammate Roberta Ponziani), whose fastest time clocked in at only 0.127s behind Herrera. Astrid Madrigal started her Acerbis Italian Round well, she sat at P3 for most the session, her 1’40.644s earning her first front row appearance of her WorldWCR career.
SANCHEZ HANGS ON FOR P5: Sanchez’s lap time holds to claim second row finish despite crash
Arriving to Cremona tied with Herrera for first place in the Riders’ Championship, Beatriz Nelia (Ampito Crescent Yamaha) was only a half second slower than Herrera in P1, but her time of 1’40.979s will see her lead the front row in Race 2.With only minutes left in the session, podium contender Sara Sanchez (Terra & Vita GRT Yamaha WorldWCR Team) ran onto the gravel, taking a tumble seconds later meaning she finished the session in P5, albeit earlier than she may have hoped with a time of 1’41.762s. First year as a permanent rider on the grid, Avalon Lewis (Carl Cox Motorsports) earned a second-row finish, placing P6 via her fastest lap of 1’42.040, just over a third of a second behind Sanchez ahead of her
SLIM MARGINS: just two tenths of a second separating the third-row riders
British rider Chloe Jones (GR Motorsport) in her first Superpole at Cremona earned a P7 start for Race 2, just over a tenth of a second behind Lewis with her time of 1’42.178s. Tayla Relph’s (Full Throttle Racing) 1’42.182s earned P8, a mere three thousandths of a seconds behind the English rider. Pakita Ruiz (PR46+1 Racing Team) snagged a third-row finish, improving on her Assen Superpole finish of P15 last round.
